H. S. Tuke, Four Masted Barque, 1914 |
Henry Scott Tuke painted boys and he painted ships. His boys were nude and his ships were sailing vessels.
I much prefer the maritime works, but discovering and studying them requires sifting through a seemingly endless oevre of boys.
Four Masted Barque is virtuoso watercolor. I do wonder how this particular medium came to be such a focus of English art in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
