Power & Empathy. Power or Empathy.

Some thinking and empirical research now pointing to a negative relationship between power and the empathy response, as a dynamic interaction.

That is to say, in the same person over time, as the sense of power increases, empathy decreases in direct proportion.

Power corrupts. We're beginning to suss out the exact mechanisms involved. It hinges on the understanding of empathy as a physiological event.

Pretty interesting for someone who's spent a lifetime watching how power works.

Here's a good summary.

Here's the longer take.
