Gerotranscendence.

Lars Tornstam, in the Department of Sociology at Uppsala University in Sweden, is writing about adult maturation in later stages of life.
These typically include a redefinition of the Self and of relationships to others and a new understanding of fundamental existential questions.
He seems particularly keen on de-pathologizing many of the qualities seen in older people, and his reframing is particularly effective.

I'm particularly impressed that he has the caution and good judgement--wisdom?--to identify it as a possible path toward wisdom in old age.
