It's a big step from a newborn macaque monkey imitating a tongue protrusion, to Robert Frost or Pink Floyd.

Or is it?

The discovery of that class of brain cells dubbed mirror neurons, located in area F5 of the premotor cortex, has revealed the physiological basis of seeing the world from another person's point of view. That these neurons exist demonstrates clearly the interconnectedness of humans and other life forms, allowing us to experience the world as others do, through feeling rather than through thinking.

Importantly, these neurons are most powerfully activated through imagination, visualization, music--exactly through the arts.

In a political sense this is precisely what sets the artist as the most dangerous person to any established order that requires suppression of respect for others--say, capitalism, for instance.
